Well, you used to be able to find the PPF patch before ps2hd.com got hacked, I don't know what the ETA is on that site coming back. Right now all there is at ps2hd.com is the compatibility list. One side effect of the PPF patch to make the game work with HDLoader is it causes the movies to skip, this is perfectly normal though moderately annoying. Seem to go a lot faster than other games, IMO.

I'm just entering the Benne mines so I'm sure there are more later.Coincidentally, just after this, you can usually buy them from vendors. They cost about 4500 gil. Would it be possible for those same kinds of guys that crack games and whatnot to modify the disc image to invert the control axes? My simplistic hopes are that it would be a simple sign change somewhere deep in the bowels of the control code. I know better, but it's just a thought. Considering how much work those guys put into being able to pirate a game, it'd be nifty if they could make a useful change for a game that I bought - View image here. I have no idea what you all are talking about, nor how they affect the game. I'm not that far into it, but would like to find out before i get there.Quickenings are your limit breaks in FFXII. They cost 50 LP a piece, and are usually hidden in the corners or little outlets where they're cut off by themselves. There are 18 on the board, 3 per character and it doesn't matter which one each character gets. The first one they get will unlock their first Quickening, their second their second Quickening move, and their third their final Quickening move.
To use Quickenings, you must have full MP (or MP bars, I dunno I don't have anybody with more than 1 Quickening yet) and then select 'Mist' - 'Quickening' - the one you want to use for that character. Now the screen goes dark, and the character pops up on screen and does their attack. While they are doing this there are three things to note: the timer at the bottom (starts at 4 seconds, I believe), the R2 'Shuffle' button, and the character names on the right.
The main ones to watch are the names and the timer, hitting R2 becomes second nature.Beside the names a button will appear, one for each character (X, Triangle, and O). When the first person is doing their attack and the counter is going down, you look to see if has a button beside their name. If so, start mashing it! This will create a combo where the next person/that same person will pop up and start their Quickening attack. The same thing happens here: the timer counts down, and you look for somebody to hit the button for.
Here's where R2 comes into play: if all the lines are greyed out, keep hitting R2 till a button shows up for somebody, and mash it. Lather, rinse, repeat until the timer or your MP runs out. If everybody is out of MP, then sometimes 'Mist Charge' will show up which refills everybody's MP and you can keep going.Depending on the amount of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 attacks you pull off, you may get a Concurrence at the end.
Think of it as a big non-elemental Area of Effect spell.Once that's done, battle continues as normal with people who used their Quickenings usually down to 0 MP. They may have more if you ended on a Mist Charge, though.EDIT: Updated to include incandenza's info about same character chains for Quickenings. Originally posted by Huma22:Final-fucking-ly.Thank you for finally explaining that, Agreschn.Just one question though.do you have to keep hitting the R2 button, or can you hold it?
My R2 button is a bit busted, see.AFAIK, holding it would make a continuous shuffle and you wouldn't have the chance to hit another button for a combo before it disappeared. I just tap it personally. I don't know what others may do/have found out though. And that accumulated knowledge is from two days of going 'WTF??' And finally figuring out just what the hell the Strategy Guide was actually saying.I do have to say that for the way they teach you about everything else in the game, SE dropped the ball big time on explaining Quickenings. My simplistic hopes are that it would be a simple sign change somewhere deep in the bowels of the control code.If it were that straightforward, you may not need to hack the image. A Gameshark/Action Replay device could probably accomplish the same thing for non-modded PS2's, once you figured out the memory location(s) they you would need to modify.OTOH, wouldnt that flip the left/right axis for every other movement besides the camera control?
The whole topic is wishful thinking most likely, but it boggles my mind how they could not bother to at least offer a configurable option for camera control.I havent picked up FFXII up yet, and the camera issue is 75% the reason. I'm hoping that someone will figure out some sort of clever workaround by the time I get around to it. It's nice. That said, I'm playing using the disc. Cuz, I like non-skippy cutscenes, and besides, I beat the Japanese version using HDLoader, so I needed a change. View image here. Since I've been doing this I haven't had any issues beating bosses. Also a question. I just got decoy recently and it seems to miss a lot when I try to use it.
I had it set on a gambit and then just for kicks set there and watched my mage-type use all her mist points trying to get it to land. Is this normal or is there something I'm missing.
If i could keep decoy up all the time that would own.so I do wander if I just need more levels(level 26 atm). It took a day or two, but it's second nature now. Here's a question though: Is anyone ending up with relatively homogeneous characters?Other than Fran, whose first appearance with a bow prompted me to keep her ranged (and Penelo, who just rejoined the party) everyone else seems to be turning into a melee character.I'm trying to make Ashe more of a Warrior/Healer, but the 'mystic armor is confusing me. Does mystic armor just increase your magic resistance, or your actual magic power?I am desperately trying to avoid the same situation. While its a cool fun idea to LATER make everyone uber, I hate the feeling that I might get to a point where I uncover something on the license board and go 'oh ok. Guess everyone needs it' and sit there with my thumb up my ass as I L1/R1 my way around teaching it to everyone. The other problem as I see it, is that at least early on (relatively early) attack magic just isnt very feasible other then specific situations (oh its a Flan. Weak to fire.
I mean you only get three people at a time. One must be a healer, and if they try to nuke at all often they will quickly be out of healing mana.
Two other melee fighters or a melee and a Black Mage. But then do you really want only one character that is in the mix fighting? It can be a bit frustrating. To me the best solution seems to have a dedicated healer/powerful mage (that can nuke the fuck out of things when necessary) and have two other standard combat people, and maybe one of them knows a lot of black magic. What I do in my game is to have each party consist of a healer (Vaan or Ashe), an 'ass kicker' melee type person (Fran and Basche), and finally a ranged/variable/tech using 'Leader' (Balthier and Penelo).
The mage primarily heals, and the remaining characters try to evenly distribute their little mana use by being utility casters. Everyone knows protect, everyone knows blind etc. I have gambits set up where the leader (who is almost always targetted) keeps protect up on himself, and the ass kicker (who usually has mana to burn) keeps protect up on the healer. This has worked out pretty well as I refine it, and tends to be pretty fun. I like leading the party from range, as it is easier to keep an eye on the battle, and to me it just makes sense. Finally to answer your question after my rambling, these are my observations on armor at L22 or so and 30 hours in:Heavy- Most defense, lots of strength boosts, and the rare speed boost.Light- Just ever so barely behind Heavy, with not as many general stat boosts, but when they are there, speed and vitality (+HP).Mystic- Just barely behind Light, with tons and fucking tons of +magic. Basically you can make anyone into a great caster when they are in mystic armor.
For example, everyone else has like 30 magic, Ashe on the other hand is in mystic gear, and has like 41. Originally posted by:Mystic- Just barely behind Light, with tons and fucking tons of +magic. Basically you can make anyone into a great caster when they are in mystic armor.Spot on - the current gear I have Ashe in gives a total of +40 MP and +14 magick power. She heals for about twice what everyone else does.I've been ignoring Fran/Balthier/Penelo, as I just don't have time to level twice. Vaan and Basch are both hard-core melee - sword/shield, heavy armor (though I need to get them crossbows for flying foes)Ashe is more mage/support, with mystic armor and a bow - still hits fairly well, but is a bloody powerhouse when it comes to magick/healing. Thanks shrike. My confusing with the armor might have to do with me not having encountered any +MP armor (or +anything armor, for that matter) at the point in the game I've arrived to.
My mains are 20-21, I'm about 17 hours in, but I've only just gotten to the scene where they leave the Marquis and Balthier cloaks his ship in the desert.I spent quite a bit of time levelling on those skeletons in the mine.Hopefully it'll become clearer soon enough. Also, I got my first Quickening combo last night.a 6. Took down most of Rocktoise's hp.
I've been running the entire game with two melee characters and one support. I have Vaan and Basch running the melee and Ashe from the support role simply because she had more MP than anyone else when I was making the choice. Vaan and Basch were both one-handed sword + shield users until I ran screaming through the Necrohol and stole the Zodiac Spear, which Basch is now using. Ashe sits back with guns because, well. Guns kick ass in this game. They take a bit longer to attack than melee weapons, but with the way they ignore defense they do just as much damage or more than my melee characters. Well, until I got the Zodiac Spear, which does twice as much as anyone else. And what's this noise about watching a lot of FMV?
I seem to spend more time in combat and less time watching people talk in this game than in any other (non-action) RPG I've ever played.
